HATFIELD PEVEREL TABLE TENNIS CLUB

The club was founded 21 years ago in 1982, and originally played in the old wooden hall in the street, then temporarily in the Old School House in Maldon Road.

Currently the club meets on alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Village Hall.

The aim being to field teams in the Chelmsford and District Table Tennis League, and it has won many league trophies over the years.

The club currently has 25 - 30 members competing in 5 teams for the coming season.

The founding Club Chairman was John Scott and one of the first Club Secretaries was Alf Anderson.

The club draws its members from the Braintree, Maldon, Colchester, Harwich, Chelmsford and Billericay areas as well as Hatfield Peverel, in fact from the whole of Essex.

Members ages range from mid 20's to over 60, covering a wide spread of skills from Divisions 1 down to 6.

We also used to run regular junior coaching sessions, some years back as well as social play evenings.

The club holds regular social events, including an annual meal out and a Barbeque and Quiz night.

The Club's annual competitions are held in April/May at the end of the table tennis season with the AGM in June.

In early September when the new season starts practise nights enable new members to try their hand!

The game of table tennis itself has evolved over recent years, moving from 38mm to the slightly larger 40mm ball and a new scoring system with reduced points in each game, down from first to 21 to first to 11.  This is aimed at making it slower paced but faster resolution and thus more attractive for a television audience.

The current Secretary is Neil Freeman, Chairman is Andy Simmonds and the Treasurer is Colin Powell.
